The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has written to all state governments and union territories urging them to take strict action against outdoor advertisements of online betting and gambling platforms. The ministry’s directive comes after it received multiple complaints about these platforms advertising on billboards and hoardings in public places, which are accessible to minors. The MIB has asked the state governments to take action under the relevant provisions of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, and the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) Code. The ASCI Code prohibits advertising of products or services that are banned under any law.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has recently asked all the states and union territories to take action to curb outdoor advertisements of betting and gambling platforms. The MIB’s advisory comes amid concerns over the rise of online gambling and betting activities in the country, especially among the youth. The ministry has urged the state governments to monitor and take strict action against any such ads that promote online gambling or betting on sports events. It has also asked the states to ensure that the advertisements are not being displayed near schools and other educational institutions. This move is expected to help in curbing the rising trend of online gambling and betting in the country, which has become a major concern for authorities due to its adverse impact on the society.
