Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-nation visit to the United States and Egypt from June 20 to 25, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs. The visit includes an official ‘State Visit’ to the U.S. from June 21 to 23, followed by a similar visit to Cairo.
The visit to the U.S. will commence in New York, where Prime Minister Modi will lead the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations headquarters on June 21. Since its inception in 2014, the International Day of Yoga has become a significant event on the U.N.’s annual calendar of activities.
Following the yoga celebrations, PM Modi will travel to Washington D.C., where he will receive a ceremonial welcome at the White House on June 22 and hold high-level discussions with President Joe Biden. President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will also host a State dinner in honor of the Prime Minister that evening. Furthermore, Modi is scheduled to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will engage with Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken at a luncheon, which will be jointly hosted by them. He will also meet with CEOs, professionals, and various stakeholders in New York and Washington D.C. In addition, he will interact with the Indian diaspora and members of the Indian community, as he has done on previous visits to the U.S.
The second leg of the tour will take Prime Minister Modi to Egypt, reciprocating President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to India earlier this year. President El-Sisi had extended an invitation to PM Modi during his stay as the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations. The visit aims to strengthen the ancient trade and economic ties, cultural exchanges, and deep-rooted people-to-people connections between India and Egypt. The official release highlights that the two countries have agreed to elevate their relationship to a ‘Strategic Partnership.’
During his stay in Cairo, Prime Minister Modi will meet with members of the Egyptian government, prominent personalities, and the Indian community. This visit further underscores the commitment to foster closer ties between India and Egypt.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the United States and Egypt holds immense significance. From leading the International Day of Yoga celebrations at the U.N. headquarters to engaging in high-level discussions and strengthening bilateral ties, this tour demonstrates India’s global presence and the Prime Minister’s commitment to promoting international cooperation and partnerships.
