As the nation gears up for Republic Day celebrations on January 26th, the capital is witnessing a comprehensive security plan, including airspace restrictions spanning a total of 11 days. These measures are in place to ensure the safety and seamless execution of preparations and festivities.

The airspace curbs, scheduled from January 19 to 25, with additional restrictions on January 26 and 29, are a crucial aspect of the security protocols. During January 19 to 25, non-scheduled flights, including those of scheduled airlines and chartered flights, face restrictions on landing or takeoff between 10 am and 1.15 pm. Notably, scheduled flights will operate unaffected during this period.

The notice to airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) outlines detailed restrictions, effective from 6 am to 9 pm between January 26 and 29. On Republic Day itself, January 26, a complete restriction on flight operations will be in force from 6 am to 9 pm, impacting both takeoff and landing.

Officials have clarified that the NOTAM will not affect operations of the Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF), Indian Army aviation helicopters, and state-owned aircraft/helicopters flying with the Governor/Chief Minister.

In tandem with these aviation restrictions, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is set to enhance security checks at Metro stations. Starting Friday and continuing until January 27, passengers can expect heightened security measures. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has cautioned that this may lead to longer queues, especially during peak hours.

The combined efforts of tightened airspace control and increased security checks aim to create a secure environment for Republic Day celebrations, prioritizing the safety of all citizens and participants.
