NoBroker, a Google-backed proptech unicorn, is reportedly set to become the first proptech platform to join India’s government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The platform is said to be working on technical issues and is expected to join ONDC as a buyer side app within a week. This move is expected to further NoBroker’s user base by attracting individuals seeking to rent, lease, buy or sell properties without the involvement of brokers. The ONDC platform aims to democratise e-commerce in India and enable small businesses and retailers to become part of the growth in the sector. The platform has been expanding rapidly, having onboarded tech platforms across various industries in quick succession, and aims to expand to more cities in the future.
The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is being touted as the UPI for the ecommerce industry by the Indian government. Its aim is to democratize ecommerce by enabling small businesses and retailers to become a part of the growth in the sector. With increasing internet and smartphone penetration, the ecommerce sector in India has grown significantly in recent years and is estimated to become a $400 Bn opportunity by 2030. The ONDC platform is expected to further boost the growth of ecommerce by onboarding more tech players across industries and expanding to more cities in the future.
