Veteran actor Treat Williams, known for his roles in popular television series like “Everwood” and the film “Hair,” has tragically passed away at the age of 71. The news of Williams’ death was confirmed by his agent of 15 years, Barry McPherson, who expressed devastation over the loss.
According to McPherson, Williams was involved in a motorcycle accident, where a car cut him off while he was making a turn. The incident occurred on Monday around 5 p.m. on Route 30 near Dorset, Vermont. Williams was airlifted to a hospital in New York via a LifeNet helicopter. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
Described as the “nicest guy” and a talented actor, Williams had a career spanning over four decades and was highly regarded in the industry. Filmmakers admired him, and he had been a prominent figure in Hollywood since the late 1970s. Williams took pride in his recent performances and was grateful for the work he had received, maintaining a balanced and diverse career.
Williams made his film debut in 1975 with the thriller “Deadly Hero” and went on to appear in notable films such as “The Ritz,” “The Eagle Has Landed,” and the film adaptation of “Hair,” where he portrayed George Berger. His performance in “Hair” earned him a Golden Globe nomination for new star of the year – actor. He received another Golden Globe nomination for his role in “Prince of the City” in 1981.
In 2002, Williams gained significant recognition for his portrayal of Dr. Andrew “Andy” Brown in the television series “Everwood.” He starred in the show for all four seasons and was even nominated for a SAG Award for his outstanding performance in a drama series.
Throughout his extensive career, Williams appeared in numerous films and television shows, including Steven Spielberg’s “1941,” “Blue Bloods,” “The Late Shift,” “Chicago Fire,” and Hallmark projects like “The Christmas House” and “Chesapeake Shores.” He leaves behind a legacy of more than 120 credits in the entertainment industry.
Williams is survived by his wife, actress Pam Van Sant, and their two children, Gill and Ellie.
