National Cashew Day: Nurturing Growth in India’s Cashew Industry

On the 23rd of November 2023, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, orchestrated a noteworthy celebration of National Cashew Day. The event took place at Hotel Green Park in Visakhapatnam and was organized in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Cashew Manufacturer’s Association.

The program welcomed Sri. M. Venkateshwarlu, Additional Director of Horticulture, Department of Horticulture, Government of Andhra Pradesh, as the Chief Guest. His address highlighted critical aspects of cashew cultivation technologies, production, value addition, mechanization in processing, and the substantial contributions made by Andhra Pradesh to the global cashew export market. He underscored the government-supported schemes aimed at benefiting cashew Farmers’ Producer Organizations (FPOs) and processors.

APEDA Authority Member, Sri K. Polaiah, also took the stage to discuss the current scenario of cashew exports and shed light on APEDA’s pivotal role in facilitating and promoting these exports. The insights shared by Polaiah provided a comprehensive view of the initiatives and strategies employed to bolster the cashew industry’s global presence.

Mr. Phani Raghavulu, President of the Andhra Pradesh Cashew Manufacturer’s Association, brought to the forefront the remarkable growth of the cashew industry in India. Raghavulu outlined the challenges faced by the industry and elucidated on the interventions made by both state and central governments to ensure the sustained development of the cashew sector. His perspective added depth to the conversation, showcasing the collaborative efforts required to address industry-specific challenges.

The event not only celebrated the significance of cashew in India but also demonstrated the concerted efforts of various entities, including government bodies and industry associations, to nurture and sustain the growth of this vital sector.
